Dr. Nusrat teaches students of all ages and levels. Her pedagogy revolves around experimentation and play. In our studio, a teacher–student performance takes place in every single lesson period. She prepares students for performance early on by playing along with backing tracks and learning how different styles of music can blend.

Students are eligible for a free audio production from the Music Studio program depending on how well they progress in class. They also have the opportunity to join the yearly Christmas Recital and perform alongside their instructor or collaborate with other students.

  • Violin

Students are expected to come to class with their instrument and materials ready. Here they will learn parts of the instrument, proper finger placement, and bow hold.

Nusrat approaches violin through both Western classical and Indian classical, both diverse in methods in hopes to help the student develop more options to interpret their music.

  • Drum

Drum lessons will use staff notation and help students develop a sense of rhythm they can follow as they play.

After a few lessons, students will begin playing along their chosen music tracks or the instructor picks the repertoire for them.

  • Theory

Aside from learning theory through instrumental lessons, it is a required subject for those who wish to pursue RCM examinations. Some topics include history, musical and rhythmic notation, analyzing composition, terminology, and chord structure. Lessons may be spent entirely on theory depending on the density of content.

  • Music Tracks

After students complete a song, they are taught to perform with the music track of their choice. Completion includes memorizing their piece. Here they will develop their listening skills and enhance their rhythmic sense.

Nusrat finds this method to be useful in helping a student’s confidence while they perform live.
